Enjoy Free Concert and Watermelon at Shangri La, July 4

 

ORANGE, Texas - Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center will be open on the 4th of July and is hosting a free 4th of July concert. Shangri La will be open on July 4, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and reopen at 6:45 p.m. for the evening concert. Free entrance to the concert will begin at 6:45 p.m., with the concert starting at 7:30 p.m. Prior to the concert, Shangri La will have free watermelon for visitors to enjoy. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for seating. For more information, call 409.670.9113 or visit www.shangrilagardens.org.

The Orange Community Band will conduct the concert and perform patriotic songs in celebration of Independence Day. The Orange Community Band is made up of members ranging from high school students to senior citizens and will be directed by Mark Wolocki, Assistant Band Director from West Orange Cove CISD. Wolocki is a graduate of Ithaca College in New York and received his Masters degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.

"An evening at Shangri La, enjoying free watermelon and listening to patriotic songs from our own Orange Community Band creates the perfect atmosphere to celebrate Independence Day. We hope everyone will come out and celebrate with us," said Michael Hoke, Director of Shangri La.      

Members-only and handicapped parking is available inside Shangri La. Located at 2111 West Park Avenue in Orange, Texas, Shangri La is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. For more information, call 409.670.9113 or visit www.shangrilagardens.org.
