Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to elect Dr. Alan Coleman as mayor pro tem.
The city council voted to authorize City Manager Kyle Hayes to apply for and accept funding through the FY2012 Assistance to Firefighters Grant and Fire Prevention and Safety Grant programs.
“The Assistance to Firefighters Grant will be used to replace a Wildland/Urban Interface Firefighting Apparatus, retrofit one fire engine with a compressed air foam system, purchase SPCO sensors to monitor citizens and firefighters for exposure to carbon monoxide, acquire fitness equipment to support the department’s safety and fitness program and modify Chief’s Suburbans to achieve effective Command Post capabilities in the field,” Hayes said. “The Fire Prevention and Safety Grant will be used to purchase an electronic fire extinguisher simulator to be used for public education and firefighting training.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grant will provide a total of $295,000 in funds, with a $59,000 match required. The other grant would provide $12,000 in funds, with a $2,400 match.
The city council voted to accept the roadway and right-of-way in front of Sallie Curtis Elementary School that is currently owned by the Beaumont Independent School District.
Under the agreement, the school district will make a payment of $80,000 to the city in return for the city taking over responsibility for maintenance and rehabilitating the street.
All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda
