Livestock Show and Rodeo™ awardS more than $1 million to Texas FFA Members
Houston — Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials traveled to Corpus Christi, Texas, Wednesday, July 11, to award 70 Texas FFA students with four-year, $16,000 college scholarships totaling $1.12 million during the 84th Texas FFA Convention.
The first Show scholarship was presented in 1957 to an FFA student from Bellaire High School in Houston. Since then, the Show has awarded more than 2,100 scholarships to Texas FFA members, totaling more than $20 million.
Recipients are reviewed by an evaluation committee consisting of agricultural science teachers representing the 10 FFA areas in Texas, chosen by Texas FFA officials. Awards are given based on the criteria of academic ability, FFA involvement and achievement, financial need, and leadership.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is a Section 501(c)(3) charity that benefits youth, supports education, and facilitates better agricultural practices through exhibitions and presentation. Since its beginning in 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has committed approximately $283 million to the youth of Texas.
The 2013 Show will run Monday, Feb. 25, through Sunday, March 17. For more information, visit www.rodeohouston.com.
