Berdena Marie Volquardsen Page Reeves, age 101, went to rest in the arms of Jesus, Friday,July 13, 2012 at the Meridian in Galveston. Funeral services are Tuesday, July 17, 2012, with visitation from 5pm to 7pm and the service to immediately follow at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home 1201 Tremont in Galveston. After the funeral her ashes will be taken to Des Moines, Iowa for a memorial service, and she will be laid to rest beside her husband and son at the Masonic Cemetery.

Berdena was born on August 19, 1910 to Johannes and Alvena Kruger Volquardsen in Flaundreau, South Dakota.She had 3 Brothers Ted Rudy and Hugo. She was married to Harold Reeves on December 30, 1933; they were married 52 years when Harold passed away in May of 1986.

Harold and Berdena were blessed with 6 children, Richard, Rodney, Narman, Jerry, Loren and daughter Arlene. They were an active part of their children’s’ lives; she was their homeroom mother, as well as their Den Mother and Harold was their Scout Master. Spending time with her family was what she loved most; she also enjoyed cooking and sharing stories with them. She was surrounded by family always, including in her final days of life.

She was a hospital volunteer, a President of Gold Star Mother and also a Blue Star Mother, President of Carpenter’s Women’s Auxiliary, worked with the Cancer Society and a member of the Eastgate Eastern Star. A wife of a shriner and attended many functions in the Galveston, Houston And other cities in Texas.

She was an adventurous woman, who loved life. She enjoyed cruises and riding Ferris wheels with her grandchildren, and recently at 101 years old, she rode the Vigilante Extreme Zip Line at Inspiration Tower, the tallest zip line in the world in Branson, Missouri for the fourth time   setting a record for her age and making the front page of the Branson news and becoming eligible for the Guinness World book of records.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joseph Reeves and her sons, Loren Steven Reeves and Jerry Dean Reeves, her son-in-love Ronald Richardson, her daughter-in-love Marvis Reeves and her grandson Scott Reeves.

Berdena is survived by her son Rodney and his wife Ann of Galveston, TX, her son Narman and his wife Mary of Ankeny, IA, son Richard Reeves of Sioux Falls, SD,   her daughter Arlene Richardson of Cedar Rapids, IA, and her daughter-in-love Carolyn Reeves of Des Moines, IA.

The 15 grandchildren surviving her are Robert Reeves and wife Brenda of Galveston, TX, Steve Randall Reeves of Annapolis, MD, Larry, Bill, and Russell Reeves, Ronda Smith, Kathy.Klaaren, Ray, Mike and Lori Richardson, Carrie Wheeler, Kristi Harmon, Steve Richard Reeves, Colleen Schodt and their spouses.

She has 41 great-grandchildren: Robert A. Sr and wife Tish Reeves,  Ryan And wife Crystal Reeves, Amy and Husband Jeremy Leuchtag ,Ricky and (Kristen) of Galveston. Steven L., Stephanie, Blake, Will, Alex, Crystal Loren, Becca, Matt, Jessica, Brittany, Wesley, Tyler, Rachael, Megan, Nathan, Josh, Robin, David, Asia, Hallie, Madison,  Valerie, Ashley, Trevor, Kathleen, Daniel, and their spouses.

Her 19 great-great grandchildren: Robert A. Jr., Cody, Kaley, Michael, Zoe, Ace, Jeremy Jr., Cayley, Caleb, Shanna, Titus, Dean, Russell, Daniel, Jaime, Lisa, Rebecca, Landon, Lina and Alexander.

She has 2 special nephews Donald and Charlie Reeves and many dear friends Alma Wilson of Des Moines Iowa.Bobby and Ginger Leslie,Betty and Charles Irons of Galveston, Friends and Employees of the Meridian.
