Early voting began today for the July 31 Republican and Democratic Party Primary Runoff Elections. Guidry News Service is covering contested races in Brazoria, Fort Bend, Galveston and Harris counties. There are no contested local races in the party primaries in Jefferson County.
Felicia Harris and Randy Weber are vying for the Republican nomination to replace Ron Paul in the November election which will be decided by voters in Brazoria, Galveston and Jefferson counties. Democrat Nick Lampson will face the winner of the Republican primary.
In Brazoria County incumbent Republican Justice of the Peace Precinct 1, Place 1 Justin M. Thomson faces a Republican challenge by Jack Brown; Mike Merkel and Larry Griffin are in the Republican primary for Justice of the Peace Precinct 3, Place 1; and incumbent Republican Constable Precinct 3 C.B. "Buck" Stevens faces a challenge by G.C. Sonny Atkins.
In Fort Bend County Jacqueline Chaumette and Rick Miller are running for the Republican nomination for Texas State Representative District 26; and Tom Aitcheson and Bruce Fleming are faced off in the Republican primary for County Commissioner Precinct 1.
In Galveston County Dr. Greg Bonnen and Ryan Sitton are running for the District 24 State Representative seat to replace Larry Taylor, who is running for the state senate.
Wayne Faircloth and Bill Wallace are in the Republican primary for State Representative District 23, a race that includes parts of Galveston and Chambers counties.
Also In Galveston County there are three contested local races in the Republican primary and none in the Democratic primary.
George Young and Kerry Neves are competing for the nomination to the 10th Judicial District Court bench. There is no Democrat in the race.
Wayne Malia, who previously was elected as a Democrat to the 405th Judicial Court bench is now a Republican and faces Michelle Slaughter in his bid for a new term. There is no Democrat in the race.
Two Republicans are running in the Galveston County Sheriff’s race, Henry Trochesset and
John Kinard. The winner of the Republican primary will face Democrat John Pruitt
Ryan Dennard and Mark Foster County are facing one another in the Republican primary race for Commissioner Precinct 1. The winner will face Democrat Winston Cochrin in November.
Harris County has contested races in the Republican and Democratic primaries.
In the Republican Party Michael Landrum and Chris Gillett are running for District Judge of the 129th District Court; Don Self and Janet Townsley are running for District Judge of the 152nd District Court; and Louis Guthrie and Carl Pittman are running for Sheriff.
In the Democratic Party Jarvis Johnson and Erica S. Lee are running for County School Board of Trustees, Position 6, Precinct 1; Cindy Vara-Leija and Alan Rosen are running for Constable Precinct 1; and Christopher Diaz and Zerick Guinn are running for Constable Precinct 2.
