METRO LAUNCHES 2ND HOT LANE
HWY 59 SOUTH HOV OPENS TO SOLO DRIVERS

METRO’s HOT network is expanding, and now includes the Southwest Freeway High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane. That means drivers without passengers have the option to ride in the US 59 South HOV lane by paying a toll.

WHAT: Ceremony to celebrate launch of second METRO HOT Lane which opened July 23

WHEN: Monday, July 30 at 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Hillcroft Transit Center, 6220 Southwest Freeway, Houston, TX 77036

Like the first METRO HOT lane to open, I-45 South, the tolls range from $1 to $4.50, based on the time of day. Solo drivers can access the HOT lane during specific periods in the morning and afternoon drive times. The HOT lane will be closed at the peak of the morning (7-8am) and afternoon (5-6pm) rush hours in order to keep the lane flowing smoothly at about 50 mph.

HOT Lane users must have an authorized toll tag to access the lane as cash is not accepted. Drivers can use any of the following tags: METRO HOT Lanes Toll Tag, Harris County EZ Tag, TxDOT’s TxTAG or the Dallas NTTA Toll Tag.

Please note those who ride METRO, carpool, vanpool, and motorcyclist will still ride for free in the HOV lane.
