HOUSTON —University of Houston Clear Lake’s Student Council for Exceptional Children Chapter 1148 received the Texas Council for Exceptional Children’s Chapter Excellence Award at its annual convention.

Chapter 1148 was recognized for its leadership in coordinating events such as its annual Take-a-Buddy-to-the Fair, a carnival-like, fun and stimulating event for students with special needs that promotes social skill development as well as assists in the development of motor skills. This year’s fair served approximately 300 students and teachers from the surrounding school districts, and included the dedicated support of 60 volunteers. In addition, the UHCL chapter was cited for its outstanding collaboration and support of numerous other UHCL student organizations’ events as well as several community events including charity walks and fund raisers.

On hand to receive the award were chapter members (l to r) including Dawn Rodriquez, Christine Beck, Tracy McKinley and Sarah Dudley.
