GALVESTON'S GRAND 1894 OPERA HOUSE PRESENTS
EZRA CHARLES, SATURDAY, AUGUST 11

GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS -.  The Ezra Charles Band will fill The Grand's stage with just one unforgettable performance at 8pm on Saturday, August 11 as Galveston’s Grand 1894 Opera House’ summer season “gets cooking” to the delight of audiences from all over the Gulf Coast region.   Featuring a unique sound and a distinct “mix of ingredients”, the Ezra Charles Band is recognized in the world of Texas music as “one of the most diverse” and flaunts a style that is hard to categorize.

The Ezra Charles Band is the epitome of diverse Texas music. From swing to blues and boogie, to dance-hall beats to intimate, cabaret-style songwriting - each variety of music has entertained listeners and audiences for over three decades. Indeed, “The King” of Texas Blues Piano has created a show mix that “sizzles” with an all-female, “take-no-prisoners” three-piece Big Band horn section that will back up his amazing keyboard work.

Charles grew up in Beaumont and attended Rice University. Mentored by Leon Russell, Charles is not only the songwriter and arranger of the band's material, but also the bass player, creating bass lines himself through his own keyboard style and special equipment.  Making their mark on the Houston area, The Ezra Charles Band has achieved multiple high-profile opportunities to perform including during the Houston Rockets NBA championship era (1993-1996), multiple performances at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and during  the 2004 NFL Super Bowl festivities. They have performed for President George H. Bush, during the 1990 Economic Summit, and have given a private performance for The Rolling Stones.

While at Rice University, Charles invented a special microphone for pianos - an amplification system now used worldwide. It bears his surname and resulted in his receiving international fame as a technical innovator. And for the last 25 years, Charles has been writing and reflecting upon his life along the Texas Gulf ...creating an unmistakable “mood” that permeates his music.

Ticket prices $20 to $40. Call for pricing on Box Seats. Special discounts for group and senior tickets may be available. For information about this and other performances scheduled, please contact The Grand's box office at 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or visit The Grand's website at www.thegrand.com. The theater, located at 2020 Postoffice Street in historic downtown Galveston, is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the state of Texas." All major credit cards accepted.
