This Week on Stage

Performances and Concerts this week on stage in the Gulf Coast region include the Ezra Charles Band at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston and the continuation of the Houston Shakespeare Festival at Miller Outdoor Theatre.

The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston will present the Ezra Charles Band in concert on Saturday at 8 p.m.

“The Ezra Charles Band is the epitome of diverse Texas music,” said a news release. “From swing to blues and boogie, to dance-hall beats to intimate, cabaret-style songwriting - each variety of music has entertained listeners and audiences for over three decades.”  News Release

Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston will host the second week of the Houston Shakespeare Festival, presented by the University of Houston, with performances of “Hamlet” and “The Comedy of Errors” throughout the week. 

“Hamlet” will take the stage on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and “The Comedy of Errors” will be at Miller on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.  All performances are at 8:30 p.m.

Stage Door, Inc. in Pasadena concludes its production of “The Red Velvet Cake War” this week with performances on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3 pm.

College of the Mainland Community Theatre in Texas City wraps up with “The Wedding Singer” this week.  Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Island etc East-End Theatre Company in Galveston concludes its run of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” this week, with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m.

Upcoming performances include “November”, opening at the Alley Theatre in Houston on August 24, and the Beaumont Community Players’ production of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”, opening September 7 at the Betty Greenberg Center for the Performing Arts.
