Commissioning of Fire Boat “Chief Randal J. Zimmer”

On Saturday, August 4, 2012 the Fire Boat “Chief Randal J. Zimmer” was commissioned into service at the Lakewood Yacht Club.

The “Chief Randal J. Zimmer” can travel at speeds up to 44 mph and pump up to 3,000 gallons of water per minute. It is also equipped with the latest technology including a FLIR (Forward Looking Infrared Camera) that will allow nighttime visibility.

The fire boat was named after Chief Randal J. Zimmer who was a long time Fire Chief for the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department. Both the Zimmer and Mohrhusen families were honored at the Commissioning Ceremony.

Fire Boat “Miss Lois” was decommissioned after 27-years of service to Seabrook and surrounding communities. The “Miss Lois” was named after Lois Mohrhusen who is a well-respected and long time citizen of Seabrook. Lois Mohrhusen was given proclamations by both the City of Seabrook and the Seabrook Volunteer Fire Department. Mayor Glenn Royal also presented Miss Lois with a “Key to the City” for her continued service to the Seabrook community.

Fire Chief Ray Cook and Wanda Zimmer christened the “Chief Randal J. Zimmer” in honor of Chief Zimmer by breaking a bottle of Champaign and firing of the canon. After the ceremony the SVFD gave rides on the new boat to those in attendance.

The City of Seabrook and Seabrook Fire Department would like to say a special thank you to Lakewood Yacht Club for hosting this memorable event. We would also like to say thank you to the Seabrook community for their continued support.
