Preservation Houston's walking tours program will explore Houston Heights, one of Texas' first planned communities. The Heights was developed in 1892 as an independent city northwest of downtown Houston. During the 90-minute guided architecture tour, participants will hear interesting stories about life in the neighborhood during the early 1900s.

The tour route covers a portion of the Heights East Historic District, one of three City of Houston historic districts in the area. The tour looks at the evolution of residential architecture in Houston with the impressive Victorian houses, modest cottages and Craftsman Style bungalows serving as examples.

Please note that this is an exterior architecture tour. The tour will not go inside any houses.

Tickets are $10 per person ($7 for Preservation Houston members and students). Children 11 years old and under are admitted free. Tickets may be charged to VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. Tickets go on sale at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, August 12, in the median of Heights Boulevard at 11th Street. The last tour group will leave at 6:10 p.m. Reservations are not required.

Street parking is free on Heights Boulevard and adjacent side streets, but remember to observe parking restrictions. Tour participants who walk, bike or use public transportation will receive a $2 discount. There are no public restrooms along the tour route.
