Public Safety News
Shooter at Texas A&M University
by Jim Guidry
Monday, August 13, 2012

Police in College Station are investigating a shooting that left at least two people dead, including a deputy constable, near the campus of Texas A&M University.

Texas A&M released a “Code Maroon” warning at 12:29 p.m. advising all students, staff and members of the public to avoid the area southeast of Wellborn Road and George Bush Drive, and to stay inside if they lived on Fidelity Street. A second warning was issued at 12:44 stating the shooter was in custody, but people should continue to avoid the area.

"Senseless attacks by violent criminals have no place in the State of Texas--and will not be tolerated," Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot said. "The Attorney General's Office has offered law enforcement assistance to the Department of Public Safety and our Crime Victim Services personnel have contacted local authorities to ensure they have whatever resources are necessary to aid the victims of this terrible crime."

“My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the shooting in College Station this afternoon," United States Senator John Cornyn said. " I join the community in expressing my deepest condolences.”
