BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions
Mayor Parker's Pets of the Week

HOUSTON - BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions announced the second Mayor's Pets of the Week with Houston's Mayor Annise Parker today. The photos of the Mayor's Pets of the Week will be released every Monday throughout the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge which ends October 31, 2012. The photos will also be posted to BARC's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.

BARC has reached 319 dog and cat adoptions since August 1, the first day of the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge. With a goal of 2,100 dog and cat adoptions before October 31, 2012 to win the competition, BARC is well on its way to earning the $100,000 grand prize grant. As the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge approaches the middle of its first month, BARC continues to work tirelessly to build momentum across the City of Houston and among all Houstonians to increase the number of pet adoptions and lives saved every day.

"We are thrilled at Mayor Parker's support for BARC pets and BARC's competition in the $100K Challenge," said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC.  "We are right where we want to be so far.  A lot of what we are doing is about getting into the decision-making process of potential adopting families.  If we can do that, our animals take care of the rest and win the day."

The simplest, but most powerful thing you can do to help BARC, and pets throughout our community, is to talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about caring for pets responsibly. To donate to BARC online via the Houston BARC Foundation, click here.
