Galveston County Commissioners Court in a special meeting today voted to approve a proposed 2012 tax rate of $0.60877 to support the FY2013 Budget. The rate is below the rollback tax rate, thus no public hearing is required. Adoption of the tax rate will be considered for action at the commissioners court meeting next week.
The commissioners court voted to authorize Beirne, Maynard & Parsons to negotiate an agreed upon order for precinct boundary lines.
“The current court order we are under requires us to re-designate precincts after the primary run-off and before the general election and we have found that is going to be extremely problematic,” said County Judge Mark Henry. “So we are asking the court, ‘Can we wait until after the general election and the new year?’, because then we’ve got a big window to work with.”
At a workshop last week the chairs of the Republican and Democratic parties were in agreement that the matter should be put off until after the first of the year.
The commissioners court voted to nullify the previous appointment of Ronnie Moore to the Gulf Coast Rail District Board of Directors because the intention had been to appoint him to the Galveston Rural Rail District Board of Directors.
Judge Henry said Moore’s appointment to the correct board will be on next week’s agenda.
The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve the lease of the Bayside Warehouse at 7817 Bayside Avenue in Galveston from Ross Novelli, Jr. The facility includes 13,116 square feet of acclimatized warehouse space and 268 square feet of adjacent office space.
All other agenda items were approved. All votes were unanimous and all members were present. Agenda
