Missouri City City Council on Monday voted unanimously to accept Program Year 2012 Community Development Block Grant funding from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The city will receive a total of $291,829 this year through the grant. The grant will fund various projects during the year, including a playground at Buffalo Run Park, fending and a practice backboard at tennis courts at McLain Park, engineering costs for a flood drainage retention pond in the Cangelosi Watershed, Meals on Wheels, and other items.
Funds from previous years of the grant award will be used for sidewalk reconstruction and wheelchair accessible curb cuts, as well as code enforcement activities.
The city council voted to approve, on first reading, an ordinance to rename the name of Beltway Crossing to Ben E. Keith Way.
The road leads from South Gessner to the site of a distribution facility being built by food and beverage distribution company Ben E. Keith Co.
"Anyone who puts that kind of facility in this city, we'll change the name to anything they want," Mayor Allen Owen joked.
The city council voted to approve an agreement with The First Tee of Greater Houston to provide First Tee branded programming at the Quail Valley Golf Course.
All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Council Member Robin Elackatt absent. Agenda
