'Nita’s Forget-Me-Nots' Team to Host 2nd Annual Fundraiser Benefiting Alzheimer's Walk
Seeking $10,000 for the benefit of Alzheimer's research and care, the Santa Fe, Texas based advocacy team Nita's Forget-Me-Nots has planned a fundraising event to highlight their dedication to the cause.

Santa Fe, Texas – Nita's Forget-Me-Nots, a team of activists dedicated to raising funds for the Alzheimer's Association, is hosting their 2nd Annual Spaghetti, Craft Show, and Auction Fundraiser on the 23rd of September, 2012.

Alzheimer's is a degenerative cognitive disease which may affect as many as 1 in 85 people worldwide by the year 2050. Ongoing research is vital to the search for a cure, and better support and care systems to aid those affected and their families is also extremely important. In order to drive funds towards these goals, the Walk to End Alzheimer's relies on teams from across America. As such, Nita's Forget-Me-Nots has organized what will sure to be a fun and successful day with the goal of raising funds for the annual Walk.

Plates of spaghetti will be served up from noon for donations to the cause, and the event will be filled with all the makings for a grand old time. Team Leader Janet Travis notes that, "We'll have what it takes to make it a successful event - Spaghetti, Crafts, Music and Beer! We'll have live and silent auctions going on too! It should be a fun time for all, so bring the kids out as we will have activities for them too!"

The team has an overall goal of $10,000 this year, and is halfway there. They hope that by showing people a great time they can raise awareness for this disease which has touched the lives of so many of the team's members. Exceeding the $10,000 goal gives those on the team whose lives have been altered by the course of Alzheimer's hope of one day seeing a world where the disease has been eliminated.

All donations towards the team's goals are tax-deductible. "If you are able to donate privately, please also check for matching funds through your employer," Travis says. "Many companies have matching programs which you may not be aware of." For those interested in paying with a check, donations should be made out to the Alzheimer's Association Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter.

This event is open to the public and will be held from 10AM to 5PM on Sunday, September 23, 2012. The venue for the fundraiser is the VFW Post #5400 located at 11230 Highway 6 in Santa Fe, Texas.

ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WALK TO END ALZHEIMER’S® ENGAGES AND INSPIRES GALVESTON
Participants Raise Critically Needed Funds for Alzheimer’s Care, Support and Research

Houston, TX – The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Bay Area/Galveston residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s.  Stewart Beach Pavilion, East Beach, 201 Seawall Blvd., Galveston, TX 77550 will be the site of Walk on October 13 at 8:00 a.m.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for about 870 participants in Galveston who will learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services.  Each walker will also join in a meaningful ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.  As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s estimated 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s. In addition to the 5K/3.1 miles, participants will enjoy a fun welcoming ceremony and warm up accompanied by a DJ and a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.  Start or join a team today at alz.org/walk

There has never been a greater need for citizens in the Galveston area to join in the fight against Alzheimer's disease by participating in the Walk to End Alzheimer's." said Ana Guerrero, Alzheimer's Association Outreach Officer. “Funds raised will provide care and support services to the 340,000 residents of Texas living with Alzheimer's, while also contributing to advancing critically needed research."
