Jefferson County
Port Arthur City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Port Arthur City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to extend a contract with Big Truck Rental, LLC for the rental of two automated garbage trucks for an additional four weeks.

“Due to the ongoing problems with the existing automated garbage trucks having multiple breakdowns, and the resulting delays in residential garbage collection, the city council approved the rental of four automated trucks for an eight-week period to maintain the collection schedule,” Public Works Director Ross Blackketter said.  “This rental was for an eight-week period, until the four new trucks that were recently ordered arrived.”

One of the trucks has arrived, and another was expected to arrive prior to the council meeting, with the remaining two scheduled for delivery in September.

The city will continue to rent two trucks at a rate of $7,500 per truck until the remaining trucks can arrive.  The additional rental time brings the total contract to $81,400.

The city council voted unanimously to approve an economic incentive contract and loan between the Port Arthur Section 4A Economic Development Corporation and Coastal Industrial Services, Inc.

The city council voted unanimously to table action on authorizing the city manager to negotiate with Negrete & Kolar Architects, LLP for engineering, design and oversight services associated with the construction of the auto bus wash facility.

The city council voted unanimously to table action regarding a $15,274 agreement with Lamar University for the taping of governmental meetings.

The city council voted unanimously to authorize a $33,999 contract between the Port Arthur Section 4A Economic Development Corporation and Affordable Lawn & Tractor Service for landscaping and irrigation maintenance at the Spur 93 Business Park.

The city council voted unanimously to approve a $21,300 contract with “Just For Us” for janitorial services for the Parks and Recreation Department.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote of the members present at the time of the vote. All members were present.  Agenda
