La Marque ISD Board of Trustees
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, August 29, 2012

The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously, with Shirley Fanuiel opposed, to adopt the district’s FY2013 budget.

The budget includes total expenditures of $23,919,337.  The board had amended the budget to make reductions of $55,000 prior to its approval.

The budget will require a tax rate of $1.35 per $100 valuation, which includes an increase of $0.11 for the district’s maintenance and operations.  The increase would take property taxes levied for operating the district from $1.04 to $1.15, with the remaining $0.20 designated for payments on the district’s bonded indebtedness.

As the increase would place the tax rate beyond the district’s rollback rate, a tax election is required for voters to ratify the increase.  According to a blog on the district’s web site, the election is scheduled for December 15.

The board voted 5-1, with Shirley Fanuiel opposed, to approve amendments to the district’s FY2012 budget.

The board voted 5-1, with Fanuiel opposed, to approve a contract for transportation services.

The board voted unanimously to name Nakisha Paul as delegate and Edward Crawford as alternate to the 2012 Texas Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly.

The board voted unanimously to endorse Benny Mae in the 2012 Texas Association of School Boards Board of Directors election.

The board voted 5-0-1, with Joe Cantu abstaining, to approve the minutes of the August 9 meeting.

The board voted unanimously to approve personnel recommendations as discussed during an executive session.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote.  Trustee Edward Jones was absent.  Agenda
