The La Marque Independent School District Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously, with Shirley Fanuiel opposed, to adopt the district’s FY2013 budget.
The budget includes total expenditures of $23,919,337. The board had amended the budget to make reductions of $55,000 prior to its approval.
The budget will require a tax rate of $1.35 per $100 valuation, which includes an increase of $0.11 for the district’s maintenance and operations. The increase would take property taxes levied for operating the district from $1.04 to $1.15, with the remaining $0.20 designated for payments on the district’s bonded indebtedness.
As the increase would place the tax rate beyond the district’s rollback rate, a tax election is required for voters to ratify the increase. According to a blog on the district’s web site, the election is scheduled for December 15.
