The Friendswood Independent School District Board of Trustees, in a special meeting on Thursday, canceled the November 6 school board election.
Board members in Positions 1, 2, 3 and 4 were on the ballot. Incumbents Mike Shaw, Dr. Matt Robinson, Dr. Rebecca Hillenburg and Tony Hopkins filed for re-election to those positions and were unopposed. They will be sworn in for new terms in November.
The board voted to authorize the issuance of tax refunding bonds. The authorization allows the superintendent or executive director of business to approve the amount, interest rate and price of the issuance. Refunding bonds are used to pay off existing bonds, often refinancing them at a lower interest rate for cost savings.
The board voted to approve personnel recommendations for the hiring of four teachers under probationary contracts. Christine Carroll was hired as a teacher at Windsong Intermediate School, Thersa Crosby and Sandy Martin were hired as teachers at Westwood Elementary, and Jennifer Giulietti was hired to teach at Cline Elementary.
All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with all members present. Agenda
