Seabrook City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Wednesday, September 05, 2012
Seabrook City Council on Tuesday discussed the city’s FY2013 Budget and tax rate, with discussions ending in scheduling a special meeting on September 11 to further review the budget and to consider proposing a tax rate.
The council will decide whether to propose a tax increase, or to consider adoption of the city’s effective property tax rate of $0.649642 per $100 valuation. Adoption of the effective rate would allow Seabrook to draw operating revenues equal to that of FY2012, approximately $3.5 million.
The 2011 tax rate was $0.649978 per $100 valuation. The city’s rollback rate for this year is $0.730458 per $100 valuation. Adoption of a rate exceeding the rollback rate requires voter approval through a tax election.
The city council voted unanimously to allocate hotel occupancy tax funds from the FY2012 and FY2013 budgets in an amount not to exceed $45,000 for construction and installation of directional signs for attractions and parks.
The city council voted unanimously to amend the city’s Zoning Ordinance to add “Tobacco Related Uses” as a permitted use within medium-to-heavy commercial and light industrial districts.
The city council voted unanimously to amend the city’s Zoning Ordinance to add the use of “Tattoo Parlor” as a permitted use under heavy commercial and light industrial districts.
The city council took no action following an executive session to consult with the city’s attorney regarding recent amendments for changes in uniform municipal election dates and related legal issues.
All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present.
