Gov. Perry Appoints Six to Texas Emerging Technology Advisory Committee

Austin, Texas - Gov. Rick Perry has appointed six members to the Texas Emerging Technology Advisory Committee for terms to expire Sept. 1, 2014. The committee recommends proposals eligible for funding through the Texas Emerging Technology Fund to the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the House.

Christopher DeCluitt of Waco is president of the Sovereign Corp. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, American, McLennan County and Aggie Bar associations, and American Intellectual Property Law Association, and past chairman of the Brazos River Authority Board of Directors. He is also director of the Rotary Club of Waco, a life member of the National and Texas State Rifle associations, and a board member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Texas. DeCluitt received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University and a law degree from the University of Tulsa.

Sha-Chelle Manning of Fairview is a co-founder and ideation board member of Malibu IQ, and former managing director of Nanoholdings. She is a board member of Astrotech Corporation and the Loras College Board of Regents, and co-creator of the Virtual Wall, a website honoring veterans of the Vietnam War. Manning received a bachelor's degree from Loras College and a Master of Business Administration in telecommunications from the University of Dallas.

J. Mark McWatters is director of graduate programs and an adjunct professor at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law and Cox School of Business. He is a certified public accountant, a member of the State bars of Texas and New York, and a board member of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs. McWatters received a bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University, a Master of Business Administration from Michigan State University, a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, a Master of Laws from the Columbia University School of Law, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the New York University School of Law.

David L. Miller of Lubbock is chief operating officer of Flat Wireless, owner of Synergy HomeCare, and former vice chancellor of research and commercialization for the Texas Tech University System. He is vice president of Omega Mission International, and past board chair of the National Institute for Renewable Energy. Miller received a bachelor's degree from Midwestern State University, and a law degree and Master of Business Administration from Texas Tech University.

Ofer Molad of Bellaire is president and CEO of Persys Medical. He is credited with innovating modern military medical technology used during operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom, and by many U.S. Law Enforcement agencies. Molad received a bachelor's degree from Ben-Gurion University and a master's degree in counseling from the University of North Texas, and was a doctoral fellow of education and management at Clark University.

Jaye Thompson of The Woodlands is senior vice president of clinical development and regulatory affairs for Opexa Therapeutics. She is a board member of Repros Therapeutics and Class Act Productions, and a past member of the Gulf Coast Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization Executive Board, MD Anderson Technology Review Committee, and BioHouston Associate Advisory Board. Thompson received a bachelor's degree from Texas A&M University, and a master's degree and doctorate of biostatistics from the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health.
