News Release
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Harris County Attorney Vince Ryan today filed an appeal that will stop the Texas Department of Transportation’s immediate removal of the remains of ancient Native Americans who lived on the Katy Prairie approximately nine thousand years ago or more.
Ryan said, “The Harris County Historical Commission is not trying to stop the Grand Parkway construction. The Commission’s request for a 90 day delay is reasonable to properly and respectfully remove the remains according to scientific standards.”
Ryan said, “Since filing the appeal, our attorneys have been engaged in fruitful, candid conversations with attorneys with TxDot and we hope this will be resolved in a manner satisfactory to all parties.”
