Navy's newest littoral combat ship to arrive in Galveston Monday
GALVESTON, Texas
- USS Fort Worth (LCS 3) is scheduled to arrive at the port of Galveston on Monday, Sept. 17, to prepare for its formal commissioning ceremony, Saturday, Sept 22.
The ship is named for Fort Worth, Texas, the 17th largest city in the United States and the 5th largest city in Texas. It is the first ship to bear the name and is the second ship in the Freedom-variant of littoral combat ships.
The commissioning ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, at the port of Galveston. The Navy plans to stream the ceremony live on

. United States Representative, Kay Granger, of Texas' 12th Congressional District, is the ship's sponsor and will give the command to "man our ship and bring her to life" during the ceremony.
The ship will be open for general public visiting on a limited basis on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 18-20 from 1 - 4 p.m., with the last tour starting at 3:30 p.m. Guests are asked to wear comfortable closed-toed shoes and limit items carried on board. All desiring to tour the ship will go through security screening prior to gaining access to the ship.
Following commissioning, Fort Worth will proceed to its homeport in San Diego, Calif.
