Texas harbor pilots honor a century of service by retired pilots

Houston, TX  - The members of the Texas State Pilots Association meeting September 13-14 in Beaumont, Texas, honored the more than 100 years of service and leadership provided by three recently retired members, said Mike Morris, TSPA president.

The pilots included Captain Max Blanton of the Freeport Pilots, Captain Larry Robinson of the Matagorda Pilots, and Captain James Coonrod of the Galveston-Texas City Pilots.

All three retired pilots are past presidents of their respective pilot groups. Captain Blanton was a pilot for 33 years, Captain Robinson for 31 years and Captain Coonrod for 38 years.

The Texas State Pilots Association is composed of approximately 170 harbor pilots representing the Sabine Pilots, Houston Pilots Association, Galveston-Texas City Pilots, Brazos Pilots, Matagorda Pay Pilots, Aransas-Corpus Christi Pilots, and Brazos-Santiago Pilots. Harbor pilots are the stewards of Texas waterways and are responsible for maintaining safety by guiding foreign flagged ships in and out of Texas ports.
