Beaumont City Council today voted unanimously to award a $422,000 contract to SPA Skateparks of Austin for the construction of a skate plaza.
The skate plaza is planned for construction at the southeast corner of Laurel Avenue and Magnolia Street. The city will utilize $327,000 in grants awarded through the Department of Housing and Urban Development as well as $100,000 provided through an anonymous donation to fund the construction of the skate plaza.
The city council voted unanimously to authorize the city manager to submit an application to the Federal Aviation Administration to authorize the exemption of airport revenue generated from mineral extraction activities. More
The city council voted unanimously to award a $169,767 contract to PCLC Landscape Management for grounds maintenance at parks and triangles.
The staff recommendation was to award a $187,926 contract to Garden of Gethsemane Nursery and Landscaping of Beaumont for three sections of the contract, and a $24,420 to PCLC Landscape Management for the fourth portion of the contract. However, the city council moved to award the entirety of the contract to PCLC Landscape Management.
The city council took no action regarding an ordinance to demolish a structure at 3705 Magnolia Street without further notification to the property owner, if the property owner fails to comply with an order to demolish the property within 10 days.

The city council voted unanimously to approve compensation, including a three percent base wage pay increase, for City Manager Kyle Hayes.
Hayes will receive a base wage of $14,376 per month, as well as an $833 per month car allowance and a $500 monthly administrative allowance. The city will also contribute $17,000 per year to the International City/County Management Association’s deferred compensation program on Hayes’ behalf.
The city council voted unanimously to approve compensation for the year for City Attorney Tyrone Cooper. Cooper will also receive a three percent pay increase, bringing his total monthly pay to $12,130. Cooper also will receive an $833 monthly car allowance and an $83 per month administrative allowance. The city will contribute $22,500 into the International City/County Management Association’s deferred compensation program for Cooper.
The city council voted unanimously to approve compensation for City Clerk Tina Broussard. Broussard will receive base wages of $5,833 per month, and a monthly administrative allowance of $100.
The city will contribute $7,000 into the deferred compensation program for Broussard.
The city council voted unanimously to reappoint Craig Lively as Chief Magistrate for the Municipal Court
The city council voted unanimously to reappoint James D. McNicholas, Jimmy Hamm and Terrence Holmes as city magistrates.
The city council voted unanimously to appoint Claude Guidroz to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee.
The city council voted unanimously to reappoint Ann Reynolds to the Animal Health Advisory Committee.
The city council voted unanimously to terminate a contract with JLMB Properties of Beaumont and to approve a contract with Yardboy Lawncare Services for lawn mowing services.
