"Speed Dating" at the Fall in Love at BARC Adoption Event This Weekend
BARC Approaching 1,000 Dog and Cat Adoptions in APSCA $100K Challenge
HOUSTON - BARC is offering Houstonians an opportunity to bring in a beautiful new season with the perfect pet this Saturday, Sept. 22 - Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Fall In Love at BARC Pet Adoption Event from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. at 3200 Carr Street. In addition to reduced adoption fees of $20 for dogs and $10 for cats, BARC is offering a speed dating event on Saturday where Houstonians can use the Meet Your Match program to help find the dog or cat that best fits their personality and lifestyle. All adoption fees for PurrFurred pets, dogs and cats who have been at the shelter longer than 20 days, will be waived.
The speed dating event at BARC this Saturday is all about utilizing the Meet Your Match program which helps ensure pet owners find the most compatible dog or cat for their family. The process begins when a potential adopter completes a survey that identifies which animal personalities best fit their lifestyle. Then they are paired with dogs or cats that have been evaluated by BARC's behavior experts and match the potential adopter's personality. Dogs may identified as having personalities such as a "free spirit," "goofball," "go-getter," or "couch potato," and cats may be identified as "private investigators," "personal assistants," "love bugs," or "party animals."
"This cooler new season is a great time to adopt a new furry family member from BARC," said Alfred Moran, Director of the department which oversees BARC. "We are really excited about the speed dating event because it's a great way to make sure adopters go home with just the right dog or cat. The Meet Your Match program not only allows pet owners to find the perfect pet, but also allows BARC to provide successful adoption experiences that will turn into wonderful relationships between a pet owner and their new furry companion."
Thanks to Houstonians' involvement in BARC's effort to win the ASPCA Rachael Ray $100,000 Challenge, 964 BARC dogs and cats have gone home with their forever families since August 1, 2012. BARC plans to celebrate the 1,000th adoption with a special BARC pet gift basket.
BARC's pet adoption package includes spay/neuter surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, a city license, a microchip with lifetime registration and more. BARC’s adoption process including basic eligibility requirements is listed on the "About Adopting at BARC" page on BARC’s website.
Visit BARC this weekend and fall in love with the perfect dog or cat. BARC will have hundreds of dogs, puppies, cats and kittens available for adoption and there will be lots of food, thanks to Friends of BARC, to help keep potential adopters' energy high while they search for their new furry friend.
