Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach Fall Cleanup
by Jim and Lynda Guidry
Saturday, September 22, 2012

Thousands of volunteers picked up tons of trash in the Texas General Land Office Fall Adopt-A-Beach Cleanup today.

More than 3,500 people registered for the cleanup in Galveston.  Clean Galveston Adopt-A-Beach Coordinator Gary Schero said most of them are from the Galveston-Houston area, although some come from as far away as Dallas. Listen

“The physical act of picking up trash is good, but what it really does is heightens awareness,” said Schero, who has been a volunteer in the program for 26 years.  “Kids picking up litter realize they don’t want to do this, it’s a bad thing.  Then they will tell their friends and it kind of snowballs from there.”
