The Galveston Park Board of Trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve three of four task orders with the Louis Berger Group for Federal Emergency Management Agency-related project support.
The group manages FEMA projects for the park board. The task orders include Dellenara Seascape Beach Renourishment project, the Dellenara Seascape Dune System, development of an emergency plan as required by FEMA, and for project support for future support efforts with remaining projects under FEMA.
The park board deferred approval of the task order regarding the development of an emergency plan for the board to research how the work would be budgeted, according to Park Board Chair Dr. Craig Brown. Listen
During the meeting, the park board heard a presentation regarding the park board financial reports for June, July and August. Brown said that hotel occupancy tax revenues for the year to date have increased by 17 percent over what was anticipated in the budget.
“The revenue stream has been above budget, and the expense stream has been below budget,” Brown said. “So, it looks like a very successful year for the park board, and Galveston in general.”
The park board voted unanimously to appoint Jan Inlow and Kathy Modzelewski to the Tourism Development Advisory Committee.
The park board voted unanimously to appoint Bets Anderson, Claire Reiswerg and Linda Strevell to the Beach Maintenance Advisory Committee.
The park board voted 6-1, with Buzz Elton opposed, to approve an agreement between the park board and the Cavalla Historical Foundation.
The park board deferred action regarding approval of a Human Resources Manual.
The park board deferred action regarding the lease of the Ashton Villa.
The park board deferred action regarding the lease of vacant space in the park board building.
The park board voted unanimously to approve a $10,000 sponsorship for the East End Lagoon for a signage project by the Galveston Island Nature Tourism Council.
The board discussed the proposed concept for the "Lights All Night" event at Apffel Park, a two-day music festival event. The board, by consensus, directed staff to proceed with negotiations regarding the event, including addressing concerns discussed by the park board.
