Galveston Mayor Lewis Rosen today announced the appointment of J.T. Edwards to the Galveston Housing Authority Board of Commissioners to replace Betty Massey, whose resignation was effective Sunday. More
“Mayor Rosen, immediately after he was elected, asked for my resignation from the housing authority board,” Massey said in an interview with Guidry News Service. “I did not want to resign. The mayor and I met and we agreed I would tender my resignation effective September 30.” Listen
At the time, Rosen said he would reconsider the resignation if the current board asked him to do so.
“That didn’t happen and so I stood by my letter to him, in which I resigned September 30.”
Massey’s final action on the GHA board on Friday was to cast the only vote against the housing plan which was approved later in the day by Galveston City Council. She said she would not support the plan because it cedes responsibility and authority for public housing to an outside entity for 75 years.
