Galveston County Commissioners Court on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve an interlocal agreement/memorandum of understanding between the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and the Dickinson Independent School District for the Coastal Alternative Plan.  Document

The commissioners court voted to defer action on a new policy on rental of facilities managed by the Galveston County Parks and Senior Services Department.

Program Manager Jennifer Stout explained that the revisions include a new $35 deposit requirement to reserve facilities for small events, an overtime rate for events on county holidays and a rental fee for use of the department’s public address system. Listen

A proposed new policy would prohibit the use of deejays with amplified sound equipment at outdoor events

“We wanted an addition to the restriction of the amplified sound definition, basically limiting amplified equipment at outdoor facility rentals and only allowing Deejays at our indoor facility rentals or special events.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve a new contract for the collection of delinquent taxes to Linebarger Goggin Blair & Sampson.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to deny appeals for waiver of penalty and interest for the delinquent payment of ad valorem taxes by Karen J. Cole, Lynne Boedecker and Debbie Thompson, but deferred action on appeals by Dorothy Dickerson and Robert J. and Laura A. Daniel. Listen

The commissioners court approved a resolution designating October 7-13 as National 4-H week in Galveston County. Listen

All other agenda items were approved unanimously with County Judge Mark Henry absent to attend a continuing education course.  Commissioner Ken Clark presided over the meeting.

The commissioners court discussed several items in a workshop meeting before the regular session.

Galveston County Health Authority Dr. Mark Guidry and Chief Nursing Officer Pam Jahnke updated the commissioners court on the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act. Listen

John Lee of Coastal Strategies Group, LLC updated the commissioners court on the Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant funding application. Listen

Facilities Department representatives updated the commissioners court on  State Energy Conservation Office requirements included in Senate Bill 898.  Listen
