Canal Street Gallery hosts Casual Saturday Open House on Oct. 13
HOUSTON – Canal Street Gallery will host an exhibition, displaying a new collection of fine art, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
The show will feature work by core artists Valentina Atkinson, Maria Hughes, Gordon Phillipson and Armando Rodriguez. In addition, there will be art by Jane Honovich, Rolando Rojas, Clemente Garcia, Mike Reed, Alix Dunn and Merilee Minshew. Special guest artists include Helen Dodd and Maria Jose.
Open to the public, the show invites art devotees to come as you are and enjoy tamales and drinks. Just a few blocks east of Minute Maid Park, the gallery is located in at 2219 Canal Street, in downtown Houston near Navigation St.
“We are opening our doors to our neighbors and other interested art lovers,” Valentina Atkinson, gallery owner, said. “We want to show the latest works of our core members and invited artists in a casual setting.”
Opened in April of 2008, Canal Street Gallery features rotating work from resident and visiting artists. The gallery has a unique history, located in a refurbished space in the original immigrant settlement of Houston. The building is more than 60 years old, and over the past 14 years, the neighborhood has been revitalized. More than 900 residents have moved into loft apartments and new townhomes within one block of Canal Street Gallery.
