Pasadena City Council last week voted unanimously to approve, on first reading, a contract with Graphic Packaging, International, Inc. for the purchase of paper refuse bags for a period of one year.
Council Member Phil Cayten requested that the city order a sufficient amount of bags so the city does not run out as had occurred last year.
The city council voted 7-1, with Ornaldo Ybarra opposed, to adopt, on final reading, a 2012 property tax rate of $0.591593 per $100 valuation.
The rate remains the same as 2011. Council Member Don Harrison said he appreciated the tax rate remaining the same, and that “now is not a good time to raise taxes in Pasadena”.
The city council voted unanimously to approve, on final reading, increasing the city’s salary structure by three percent and to provide a three percent increase to base salaries of all full-time and part-time non-classified civilian employee who works 20 or more hours. The city will also increase salaries by three percent for classified police officers.
The city council voted unanimously to accept, on final reading, a $4,390,000 FY2012 Port Security Grant through the United States Department of Homeland Security.
All other items were approved by unanimous vote. Council Member Darrell Morrison was absent. Agenda
