Jefferson County Commissioners Court today voted unanimously to reappoint Dr. Cecil Walkes as the county’s Local Health Authority.

Walkes reappointment is for an additional two year term.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve hotel occupancy tax allocations as recommended by the Jefferson County Tourism Committee.

The county allocated $4,000 to the Rotary Club of Beaumont, $3,294 to the Hebert Mass Reunion, and $2,000 to the Lagniappe Film & Music Festival, among other event and organization allocations.

The commissioners court tabled action regarding a resolution concerning the payment of medical and pharmacy costs for inmates in the county. The cost associated with inmates in the county was discussed by the commissioners court during a workshop held prior to the meeting.

The commissioners court tabled a burn ban order for the county.  There is currently no burn ban in effect in the county.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to accept the Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant.  The grant was awarded to the county’s Regional Crime Lab.  The grant is fully funded and requires no matching contribution from the county.

The commissioners court voted unanimously to approve specifications for a re-bid sale of 9.4 acres of undeveloped land in the county.  The property is located north of Nederland.

The commissioners court tabled award a $236,111 contract to Lange Brothers for AOA Security Improvements at Jack Brooks Regional Airport.

The commissioners court tabled action on the award of a $169,270 contract to Hi-Lite Markings, Inc. for the remarking of Runway 12/30 at the airport.

The commissioners court tabled a budget transfer for the 252nd District Court to fund the replacement of a computer.

The commissioners court tabled a budget transfer for the county jail to fund the replacement of a computer in that department. 

The commissioners court issued a proclamation in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote.  All members were present.  Agenda
