Harris County
H-GAC Board of Directors
by Jim Guidry
Wednesday, October 17, 2012

The Houston-Galveston Area Council Board of Directors on Tuesday voted unanimously to negotiate with Tegrity Homes for the H-GAC Round 2 Disaster Recovery Housing Program. (Correct) Tegrity Homes and AHRG Corporation were recommended to the board in ranked order. Listen

“It’s a continuation of our Round 1 Disaster Housing Recovery efforts,” explained Chuck Wemple.  “It will serve six counties, a portion of the region affected by Hurricane Ike.  Some of the other counties and a couple of the large cities are managing their own programs and H-GAC administers a sub-regional program.”

The six counties are Austin, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Matagorda, Walker and Waller.

The board voted unanimously to approve an application for an amendment to an existing landfill permit for the Galveston County Landfill at 3935 Avenue A in La Marque.  The amendment had been reviewed by the Plans and Projects Review Committee, which recommended approval.

The board voted unanimously to accept the Walker County Transit Plan as “consistent with regional planning”.

The plan has been developed over several months and the final draft was unanimously approved by Walker County Commissioners Court in September.

The board voted unanimously to approve a resolution honoring the service to the H-GAC and the region by Dickinson City Council Member Kerry Neves, who represents Home Rule Cities on the board; and who is now unopposed for election to the 10th District Court.  Listen

All other agenda items were approved unanimously with Austin County Judge Carolyn Bilski, Colorado County Judge Ty Prause, Montgomery County Commissioner Craig Doyal, Baytown Council Member Brandon Capetillo, Deer Park Council Member Thane Harrison, La Porte Council Member Chuck Engelken, Jr. and League City Council Member Mick Phalen absent and not represented by alternate members.  Houston Mayor Annise Parker was represented by Council Member Ellen Cohen.  Agenda

Jim Guidry addressed the board to request that when an item is approved by a divided vote that the dissenting voters be identified.
