Galveston County
Texas City City Commission
by Garrett Bryce
Thursday, October 18, 2012

The Texas City City Commission on Thursday voted unanimously to authorize the issuance of general obligation refunding bonds.

The bonds will refinance debt previously issued by the city in 2003 and 2005 at a lower lower interest rate to reduce costs of the bonds.

The city commission voted to amend the city's FY2013 Budget to appropriate funds for police department salaries and benefits.

The city had received a revised report on the tax rolls from the Galveston Central Appraisal District that placed the city's taxable values at $5,032,690,120. Under the city's collective bargaining agreement with the police officer's association, employees under the bargaining agreement would receive a four percent pay increase if the taxable values totaled more than $5 billion. The original budget was based on taxable values under $5 billion and a three percent pay increase.

The additional one percent will require a total of $55,607 for the payment of the salary increase and benefits.

The city commission voted to appoint Robin Rossman to the Bayou Golf Course Advisory Board to replace Liz Buchanan.

All items were approved. All votes were unanimous with Commissioners Mike Land and Dedrick Johnson, Sr. absent. Agenda
