Voter registration sets a record in Harris County
Total passed 2 million Monday morning, Voter Registrar Sumners tells citizens
HOUSTON – There are now more than two million persons registered to vote in Harris County, Voter Registrar Don Sumners said Monday.
“As of this morning’s report, 2,003,436 persons are registered to vote in the Nov. 6 election. Because processing of all the voter registration applications meeting the Oct. 9 deadline for voting in the election has been completed and no late applications are in that total, the election-day voter roll will change little,” Sumners said.
Since the beginning of September, the voter roll has increased by 80,852.
“This increase is a tribute to our citizens’ interest in the fundamental right and privilege of voting, to the efforts of the persons and agencies assisting would be voters and to my employees who have processed these many thousands of applications in the past few weeks,” Sumners said.
The previous record was just over 1.97 million persons registered to vote in mid-November 2008.
