BARC Gets in the Halloween Spirit with Mayor's Pets of the Week: Twix and Shadow
Plus Spooktacular Howl-O-Ween Adoption Specials: $20 Dogs and $10 Cats
HOUSTON - BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions is getting in the Halloween spirit with the Mayor's Pets of the Week, Twix and Shadow, and spooktacular Howl-O-Ween adoption specials through October 31. Pets of the Week photos below can also be viewed on BARC's Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/BARCHouston.
"We're in the final three days of the ASPCA $100,000 Challenge and we are looking forward to a strong finish. Since August 1, we have saved many lives through adoptions, returns-to-owner, transfers to rescue groups that resulted in adoptions and our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program." said Alfred Moran, Director of the Administration & Regulatory Affairs Department, which oversees BARC. "So far, we have found new and loving adoption homes for 1,680 of BARC's animals and we are still shooting to meet our goal of 2,100 adoption by October 31. Every single one of BARC's animals deserves the perfect Halloween treat: a new family."
BARC's Howl-O-Ween adoption events in the Houston Heights and at BARC were such a huge success over the weekend that the animal shelter is continuing the celebration with Howl-O-Ween adoption specials through October 31. Dog adoptions are $20 and cat adoptions are $10 at 3200 Carr Street, Houston 77026 on Tuesday, October 30 and Wednesday, October 31 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Plus name your own adoption fee for PurrFurred pets (dogs and cats that have been at the shelter 20 days or longer).
BARC is also engaging Houstonians in the effort to win the ASPCA $100,000 Challenge's $25,000 Community Engagement Award. This award goes to the challenge contestant that most successfully gets their community involved in helping to gain online votes and help save more lives than ever. By visiting www.votetosavelives.org and voting for BARC through Wednesday, October 31, supporters have the opportunity to help BARC win a $25,000 grant to continue improving BARC's adoption program. For individuals who were unable to adopt a furry friend from BARC over the last couple of months, this is a perfect way to help support Houston's homeless animals. Voters just need a Facebook account in order to confirm their I.D. prior to voting.
Twix and Shadow are available for adoption.
Name: Twix
Animal ID: A1068177
Breed: German Wirehaired Pointer Mix
Size: Medium
Age: Approximately 3 years old
More about Twix: Twix is the perfect name for this sweet, chocolate-colored dog. He is full of life and personality and enjoys going for long runs. He is very friendly and has lots of energy to burn, so he would be a great companion for the kids. Twix loves to play and hang out with his people friends, but he also gets along well with other dogs. He has tone on tone brown colors and his fur is quite scruffy, which just adds to the never-ending unique and adorable features about this dog. You will fall in love with this sweetie as soon as you lay eyes on him. He came into BARC as a stray and now he is ready for his forever home. Twix is neutered, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.
Name: Shadow
Animal ID: A1098630
Breed: Oriental Shorthaired Mix
Age: Approximately 2 Years Old
More about Shadow: Shadow is not your typical, every day black cat. Contrary to what you may have heard about black cats, you absolutely must cross paths with this sweet kitty this Halloween. He is soft and shiny, and would make the perfect cuddle buddy while your lounging on the couch. Shadow enjoys exploring his surroundings, but loves to be held and curls up close when he's ready to take a nap. He even gives kitty kisses. This adorable cat has endless amounts of love to give and would make a perfect family pet. Shadow came into BARC as a stray, but he won't be there long. Make sure to be the first in line to cross paths with him before Halloween! He is neutered, has age-appropriate vaccinations, has a city license and is microchipped.
