Gordon Takes on the Reins of the Galveston County Food Bank
as Interim Executive Director
Mark Davis, co-founder of Gleanings From The Harvest for Galveston, has left the organization now known as the Galveston County Food Bank (GCFB) to pursue other interests. Serving as interim executive director is Jeff Gordon, business operations manager of GCFB.
“Mark did a remarkable job of building Gleanings From The Harvest beyond its Galveston Island roots to serve thousands of Galveston County residents,” said Bill Tyler, president of the GCFB Board of Directors. Under Davis’ leadership Gleanings From The Harvest became a full-fledged partner distribution organization (PDO) affiliated with the Houston Food Bank and took on the name Galveston County Food Bank. “As we move into this new phase of growth for GCFB we thank Mark for his leadership and wish him our best,” said Tyler.
About one in five residents of Galveston County faces food insecurity or not knowing from where their next meal is coming. As a PDO, the mission of the GCFB is to not only to distribute more food to the needy but also to help eliminate hunger by distributing more food to the organizations that serve the needy. In 2011, GCFB alone distributed 5.5 million pounds of food, serving about 9,000 clients per month. Since its designation as a PDO, GCFB and its partnering agencies are providing food to nearly 19,000 unduplicated clients each month.
