Soccer Players Score Goals for Education
“Fourth Annual Pasion en Juego Soccer Tournament Benefits AVANCE programs”

Houston Texas: On Sunday, October 14th Pasion en Juego, Spanish for “Passion for Soccer” held their fourth annual soccer tournament at Maya Park in Houston, and for the second consecutive year benefiting the non-profit organization AVANCE.

The tournament attracted close to 1000 individuals including eight men’s soccer teams, who were thrilled for the opportunity to support education through their favorite sport.

"Knowing that not only am I benefiting my health, but also education in the Latino community, gives me a sense of pride and joy, that’s why I’m proud to participate in Pasion en Juego." said player Ashley Foster, who sponsored the event through his employer New York Life Insurance.

Each player’s financial contribution to the tournament will be used to award scholarships to AVANCE’s GED graduates who are eager to pursue a college education.

Nonprofit organizations from all over the city attended the event and provided information on free available resources they offer, while event sponsors also entertained the crowd with zumba lessons and many giveaways which included bicycles, school supplies, dvd players, soccer balls, t-shirts and much more.

In between all the entertainment, the hula hoop contest was very popular. “This dad was impressive, he did not hesitate to join the competition” said ABC Dental’s representative Carolina Turrubiates after congratulating hula champion, Pablo Davila who won a bicycle for his 3-year old Andrea. “I had never done the hula hoop before, but I’ll do anything for my daughters,” Pablo said.

After a long day of soccer and family fun, the team “Dunk Law Firm” ultimately won the championship and was awarded a four-hour limo party bus service, courtesy of West Oak Banquet Hall.

A few outstanding players were also recognized with prizes from Veronika Jewelers, and Gold, Silver and Bronze medals sent by IME, (Instituto del los Mexicanos en el Exterior) an educational institution located in Mexico City who supports the mission of this annual tournament.

Pasion en Juego’s Executive Director Adhemir Olguin and AVANCE’s Executive Director, Jose Villarreal thanked the entire crowd for their support and invited everyone to stay tuned for the 2013 tournament.
