Free Rachel’s Challenge community-wide event on February 14
Program that promotes random acts of kindness welcomes community to event at Ball High Auditorium on Thursday night for special public presentation

GALVESTON, Texas – Scott Collegiate Academy, in conjunction with Ball High School, will host a free community event to present the message of Rachel’s Challenge, a program that teaches compassion and understanding among others through random acts of kindness. The event is open to all and will take place at the Ball High Auditorium (4115 Ave. O) on Thursday, February 14. Refreshments will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the program will take place at 6:15 p.m.

Rachel’s Challenge began after the death of Rachel Scott, the first victim at the Columbine school shooting in 1999. Rachel’s father, Darrell Scott dedicated his life to spreading the words of compassion and kindness found in Rachel’s journals and school work. He has taken the program all across the United States and beyond as a way to combat school-based violence.

This Tuesday, students from Scott Collegiate Academy attended an assembly lead by Cody Hodges, former Texas Tech quarterback and current trainer for the Rachel’s Challenge program, to learn the values of Rachel’s Challenge. These lessons include reaching out to others one might not otherwise talk to, welcoming new students, spreading positive compliments, and standing up to bullying in school.
