Port of Beaumont Board of Commissioners
by Garrett Bryce
Monday, November 11, 2013

The Port of Beaumont Board of Commissioners, in a special meeting today, voted unanimously to find that the creation of a Transportation Reinvestment Zone for the port would improve the security, movement and intermodal transportation of cargo in commerce and trade.

The motion also included a finding that the port property and surrounding areas are “unproductive or underdeveloped”.

“They found there was sufficient justification to move forward with a Transportation Reinvestment Zone establishment,” Port Director and CEO Chris Fisher said. Listen (1:36)

The board voted unanimously to schedule a public hearing for November 25, the date of the port commission’s next regular meeting, to receive comments regarding the proposed Transportation Reinvestment Zone.

The board will consider establishing the zone in December.

No other action items were on the agenda. All members were present. Agenda
