Texas Restaurant Association Endorses David Dewhurst for Lt. Gov.

Austin, Texas – Bernay Sheffield, Texas Restaurant Association president and co-owner of Zentner’s Daughter Steakhouse in San Angelo, Texas, announced the Texas Restaurant Association’s endorsement of David Dewhurst for Lieutenant Governor.

“The Lt. Governor has been a great friend to the hard working people in our industry and we look forward to his continued leadership in the Texas Senate,” said Sheffield

In making the endorsement the Association noted Lt. Governor Dewhurst’s record as a fiscal conservative; bringing in balanced state budgets in the face of difficult financial times.  Reflecting on this Sheffield said “Families and small business have to live within their means and under David Dewhurst the state has done so as well. We need that kind of leadership.”

“Job creation is important to the restaurant industry,” continued Sheffield. “Under Dewhurst's leadership, over one million net jobs have been created in Texas.  Many of those have been in the restaurant industry.”

Restaurants employ more than one million Texans and more than 13 million Americans. The Texas restaurant industry is a $40.8 billion business, which is comprised of 38,000 plus locations. Statistics show that every $1 spent in Texas restaurants generates an additional $1.52 in sales for other industries in the state.
