LIT, LU will host Constitution Day program on Sept. 16

BEAUMONT – Lamar Institute of Technology and Lamar University will host a Constitution Day program at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Multi-Purpose Center, 802 E. Lavaca.

David Starnes, an attorney who is representing the Kountze High School cheerleaders in their fight to put religious-based messages on football banners, will speak.

According to constitutioncenter.org, Constitution Day became a national event in 2004. Sen. Robert Byrd passed a bill that made Sept. 17 the day for citizens to honor the signing of the U.S. Constitution. This year’s focus is the signing of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The public is invited. For more information, call (409) 880-2292.
