LU Launches New Look WebSite/Social Media

BEAUMONT, Texas – The Lamar University athletics department launched its new website Saturday. The site includes a brand new look, but will keep the domain name. Along with a new look site, LU has also launched a new social media plan for all 17 varsity sports.

“This process got started about a year ago when we started looking at new ways to expand fans involvement of our web site,” said LU Director of Athletics Jason Henderson. “The more we looked at the Aug. 1 launch date we decided to rebrand our whole social media effort to make everything unique across the board. It makes it easier for our fans to be engaged with all of our teams no matter the social platform.

“In addition, the new site provides more in depth details in game recaps, player profiles and more. It also included the social stadium which is a one-stop shop for all social fan interaction,” added Henderson.

The web site includes expanded views for individual sport recaps and athlete bios. The social stadium combines social data from Twitter and Instagram, as well as official LU content (stories, photos, videos etc.) in real time. It also includes a “gameification engine” that allows the content fans are talking about most to rise to the top.

Fans will also be able to watch live streaming video of home events, along with on demand content through the Big Red Sports Network, which will also feed video to the athletics’ YouTube account.

The athletics department also assigned a more unique, standard look to all of the individual Twitter accounts, while creating Instragram accounts for each of LU’s 17 varsity sports. The new Twitter handle is @LamarAthletics, which keeps all the previous followers of the old handle. The new handle individual sport handles are:

All in-game updates and releases will now be sent directly to each team’s account instead of the main page. In addition to the Twitter handles, each sport’s Instagram account will have the same unique handle as well.
