The Gulf Coast Community Protection and Recovery District on Thursday held the third in a series of public scoping meetings to review the findings of the second phase of the six-county district’s Storm Surge Suppression Study.
Former Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, president of the GCCPRD, spoke with Guidry News Service at the meeting, which was held in the Galveston County Courthouse in Galveston. Listen (2:49)
“We've got a long history in Galveston and a good working relationship with many people here on the island,” said Eckels. “I’m excited about the turnout we’re seeing here today and the opportunity to move on to the next phase with a recommendation and the ability to then move into additional planning and environmental work to gear up for the ultimate project approval.”
A major feature of the public scoping meetings is a video giving an overview of the project.
