Livable Communities
Galveston Intermodal Transportation Committee
by John David Suayan
Friday, July 15, 2016

The Galveston Intermodal Transportation Committee today voted unanimously to appoint Janet Hoffman as Chair and Julia Hatcher as Co-Chair.

Hoffman, who was absent from the meeting, replaces Hank Thierry. Thierry sat on the ITC for six years.

The committee voted unanimously to approve a bicycle plan with accompanying revisions for consideration for funding from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Thierry updated the ITC on the Trolley Steering Committee. He said the TSC met on June 30 and awarded a 120-day contract for upkeep on 5.1 miles of track to an unspecified entity. Listen (7:45)

“The main discussion whenever this committee gets together is what is the final start date and when will the trolleys be up and running,” said Thierry. “That seems to be the question that we have to answer. The best period we can answer is late 2017 to early 2018.”

He added that two other agreements will have be handled as from the contract for the tracks.

Hoffman will also take Thierry’s place on the trolley committee.

The committee also discussed key Seawall Boulevard projects with transportation consultant John Carrara of The Goodman Corporation and Kyle Hockersmith, Galveston Public Works Director.

Clyde Wood was also absent. Agenda
