Suspect Arrested, Charged in Crash at 6500 North Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the crash that seriously injured three children at 6500 North Freeway (North U.S. Highway 45) at about 9:05 p.m. on Saturday (July 1).

The suspect, Kevin Rivera (H/m, 49) is charged with three counts of intoxication assault in the 177th State District Court.

A photo of Rivera is attached to this news release.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Salazar and Officer O. Bledsoe reported:

Rivera was driving a green Ford Mustang northbound on the service road when he ran the red light at the intersection of the North Freeway and Parker.  He then struck a red Nissan Rogue, traveling eastbound on Parker with the green light.  The Nissan spun around and struck a traffic control device.  Two additional vehicles, a black Nissan Altima and a Honda Pilot, were also struck by debris from the resulting crash.  The Nissan was occupied by a male, female (parents) and four children.  All six were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.  Two juvenile males, 11 and 8, suffered serious injuries.  A juvenile female, 9, suffered minor bruises and an 18-month old female suffered serious injuries.  Rivera was transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  He was found to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
