Galveston Police Department
News Release
Monday, July 03, 2017

On 07/03/2017 at 1255 am, Galveston Police Officers along with Galveston EMS and Fire Department were dispatched to a reported major accident at 8102 Ave J (Causeway outbound) involving a white in color Ford F-150 and a black in color Toyota Tacoma. Upon arrival to the scene, it was determined two males were deceased and lying in the grassy area along the right shoulder of the freeway.

A witness advised the black in color Toyota Tacoma was pulled over to the right shoulder of the roadway and the decedents were standing along the driver’s side of the vehicle. The decedents and the witness was attempting to secure items in the bed of the truck, when the white in color Ford F-150 operated by a female driver was traveling northbound in the far right lane. The Ford F-150 left the marked right lane, entering the shoulder and struck the two males, causing serious bodily injuries which resulted in their death.

The female driver of the white in color Ford F-150 was detained on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated, and after a battery of tests conducted by both Galveston Police and Texas DPS Troopers, it was determined the female, identified as Dee Haney, was arrested and charged with two counts of Intoxication Manslaughter with bonds totaling to $100,000.00. Haney was taken to UTMB where a mandatory blood draw was conducted before she was taken to the Galveston County Jail.

The identities of the decedents are being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

The Galveston Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team, Crime Scene Investigations Unit, D.P.S and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and provided assistance during the investigation.
