LPVFD firefighter arrested for DWI

In the late evening hours of, Tuesday July 4th, 2017 La Porte Police Department (LPPD) received a call for a pickup truck striking a house in the 500 block of N. Shady Lane. The driver of the vehicle, 31 year old Blake Stevens of La Porte, Texas, was arrested for the suspicion of driving while intoxicated and the unlawful carry of a weapon.

At the time of the crash, it is believed Stevens, a La Porte Volunteer Firefighter, was responding to a general alarm for a reported structure fire. While on his way to his duty station, he lost control of his vehicle and struck the front of a residence. The vehicle came to a stop in an unoccupied bedroom. No one in the residence was injured.

During the crash investigation Stevens showed signs of intoxication. As a result of the investigation he was arrested for suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI). Stevens has a license to carry and had his personal weapon in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Stevens’ arrest for suspicion of DWI made it unlawful for him to possess the firearm.

Stevens joined the La Porte Volunteer Fire Department (LPVFD) in 2015. Stevens is currently suspended from LPVFD volunteer program pending the outcome of the criminal investigation.

LPPD contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, who accepted the charges of DWI and Unlawful Carry of a Weapon. He is currently being held at the LPPD Jail, awaiting bond.
