Brazoria County
Pearland City Council
by Garrett Bryce
Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Pearland City Council on Monday voted 5-0-1, with Keith Ordeneaux abstaining, to amend the membership criteria for the Convention and Visitors Bureau Advisory Board.

The changes state that of the seven board members, a minimum of two board members, and a maximum of three members, shall represent a business that directly benefits from tourism in the city. The requirement is similar to that of representatives of local hotels, which also requires at least two members, but not more than three.

All remaining board members are to be residents of the city.

Mayor Pro Tem Derrick Reed was not present at the time of the vote.

The city council postponed action regarding award of a bid to WatchGuard for the purchase of 50 additional Vista Body Cameras, in an estimated amount of $87,515. The item will be considered at a future meeting.

The city council voted unanimously to renew a contract with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston for the services of Dr. Richard Bradley to serve as the EMS Medical Director. The estimated cost of the contract totals $8,547.

The city council voted 6-1, with Reed opposed, to approve, on final reading, the issuance of a conditional use permit to allow for an auto wash business in the Planned Development District at 11213 and 11233 Shadow Creek Parkway.

The city council voted 5-1, with Woody Owens opposed, to approve, on first reading, the issuance of a conditional use permit to allow for a liquor/package store in the General Commercial District at 1823 North Main Street. Reed was not present at the time of the vote.

The city council voted unanimously to approve the purchase of additional fire bunker gear from Dooley Tackaberry, Inc. in the amount of $342,923. Reed was not present at the time of the vote.

The city council took no action resulting from discussions in executive session regarding consultation with the city attorney concerning the purchase, exchange or lease of property and economic development negotiations.

All other items were approved by unanimous vote. All members were present, with Reed leaving during the meeting, and was therefore not present for several items. Agenda
